This brief tutorial shows you how to use Fast Formatter, the premier C# source code formatting tool. You can also see the entire contents of the help file, if you want a more detailed reference. Assuming that you have installed Fast Formatter, you should see the Fast Formatter menu option under Tools. If you don't see the menu options, please see "What do I do if I can't see the Fast Formatter menu option in Visual Studio?" in FAQ.

Selecting the menu option will launch the Fast Formatter dialog. You can select the project(s) or a single file to format in the Selection tab.

You can optionally add a header comment to the top of each source code file with the Header tab. You can type anything you want for the Header text and use substitution keywords if you want.

The Formatting tab shows you how to modify the source code formatting. Fast Formatter utilizes Visual Studio's powerful C# source code formatting options. All formatting options are controlled through the Options dialog which is part of Visual Studio.

You can set specific formatting options for C# code in the Options dialog.

You can click on the Format button to start formatting. The Status dialog shows the results of the formatting.
